Bio

Jonathan David Kane is a Miami-based filmmaker and artist whose work has been exhibited at film festivals, museums, and alternative venues worldwide including Sundance, SXSW, Toronto International, Rotterdam, Sheffield Doc Fest, the Brooklyn Museum, the Perez Art Museum Miami, and the New World Symphony. His 2015 documentary film Papa Machete “boasts lush cinematography” (OkayAfrica) and “resembles a graceful dance” (NPR), and was released digitally via National Geographic and on The Atlantic Selects, garnering over 2 million online views.

JDK recently won a NATAS Suncoast Emmy Award for his work with Miami PBS affiliate WPBT2 and the Perez Art Museum Miami on the documentary Remembering Surrounded Islands. He is also a recipient of the Haskell Wexler Award for Cinematography for his work on the film At The Edge Of The World, a 2016 Berlinale Talents program alumni, and a 2018 artist in residence at the Yaddo Artist Colony in Saratoga Springs, NY.
