A Tribute to Alberto Ibargüen

In 2023, Alberto Ibargüen announced his retirement as CEO of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. To pay tribute to Alberto’s lasting legacy, Knight Foundation commissioned Jonathan David Kane to create a short documentary chronicling Alberto’s life and career achievements. The film was shown at the New World Center on March 2nd, 2024, preceding a conversation between Alberto and Judy Woodruff - lead anchor for PBS Newshour.

Knight New Work 2020

It can be argued that the performing have never before felt a shockwave so thoroughly as the 2020 pandemic. Audiences across the globe were in quarantine, venues shut their doors, and performers found themselves suddenly out of work. It is in the midsts of this catastrophic and confusing moment in history with which Knight Arts took on the challenge of discovering new works and supporting artists with grants for Knight New Work. The program celebrates artistic creation and collaboration through new modes of production, expression and communication.

To feature the award recipients on a digital and shareable platform, Knight Foundation contracted Jonathan David Kane to create video profiles of each of the 18 artists in the 2020 cohort. In addition to the artist profiles, JDK collaborated with 3 past recipients of the award to create unique cinematic interpretations of their performances. The resulting films and profiles were streamed live at a digital awards ceremony hosted by Knight Foundation and The New Tropic.

Miami Film Festival

Knight Foundation has been instrumental in supporting South Florida’s blossoming independent film scene. To spread the word about the Knight funded Made in MIA Award at the Miami Film Festival, Knight Foundation collaborated with JDK to create a series of promos to screen before films at the festival. One of these promos were screened before each film at the festival from 2017-2022.
